Medical Future
A blood glucose monitor system research and product design project for the global diabetes community.
The Challenge
Our client was a traditional OEM company in Taiwan. After 10+ years of successful business in blood glucose monitor system and diabetes care product production locally and internationally, they aimed to switch their position from a traditional manufacture to a brand/product design-driven innovation hub for the development of future medical products.
It was our client's first time trying a Design Thinking approach for a new product development project. The most challenging aspect lay in changing their mindset and believing in the value of design thinking methodology.
My Role
I participated in the project as a Product Design Researcher with an intense collaboration with industrial designers to conduct competitive research and usability testing for a new generation of BGM systems.
I also worked on aligning client's expectation with the project execution from the consultant team in Switzerland and the industrial design team in Taiwan.
Approach
Our client kicked off the project with a clear goal that they aimed to create a BGM system that suited insulin users in particular.
They targeted EU and North America that could afford to pay for premiere medical products.
